Rory Block’s Gospel & Blues Fest Weekend: Rory Block

For this year’s Blues Fest Rory Block is focusing on “Power Women of the Blues” to celebrate the importance of women’s contributions to the blues and her own “Mentor Series 2,” recordings which pay tribute to great early women of the blues. The first record, which has just recently been completed, is a tribute to the great Bessie Smith. After more than 20 highly acclaimed releases and five Blues Music Awards, Rory is at the absolute height of her creative powers. This solo concert focusing on women’s place in the blues is a unique opportunity to experience the power of Rory’s authentic, deeply felt and skillfully wrought performance in an intimate setting.

On Thursday, July 19th from 7pm – 8:30pm, Rory Block will be teaching a Slide Guitar Workshop at her personal venue in Chatham NY – Read more HERE

Five-time Blues Music Award winner Rory Block will debut her new “Power Women of the Blues” album series with the July 6th 2018 release of A Woman’s Soul, a dynamic new CD tribute to the legendary Bessie Smith, on Stony Plain Records. “Power Women of the Blues is a project that has been simmering in my imagination for 54 years,” Rory says. “It has been my longstanding mission to identify, celebrate and honor the early founders—men and women—of the blues. This series is dedicated to the music of some of my all-time favorite iconic female blues artists, many of whom were shrouded in mystery during the sixties blues revival, while the recordings of others had simply disappeared.”
